Our Work
The Village Demands formed three task forces to operationalize the actions and ideas of our work; the Education Action Taskforce, the Statewide Equity Institute Taskforce, and the Advocacy & Action Taskforce.
Education Action
The charge of the Education Action Taskforce, led by Ms. Katrina King and Dr. Abdimalik Buul, is to organize community members to support CCC pro-Black efforts and initiate systemic changes in higher education institutions by taking the following actions:
- Examine and interrogate the systems, structures, actions, policies, procedures and practices that impede the success of Black students;
- Propose new ideas, strategies, and approaches to advance the collective agenda of Black faculty, staff, and students; and,
- Interrupt the cycle of business as usual on our campuses and call our campus constituents and leaders to action by adopting these strategies that would foster the transition from anti-Blackness to a pro-Black educational system.
Statewide Equity Institute
The charge of the Statewide Equity Institute Taskforce, led by Dr. Regina Stanback Stroud and Dr. Stacy Thompson, is to create a plan for the development and implementation of a statewide institute focused on increasing racial literacy, critical consciousness and cultural fluency in educational institutions and organizations. This encompasses the creation of a Virtual Statewide Equity Resource Center as one of the problem-solving approaches The Village Demands will take to address structural and systemic racism.
Advocacy & Action a.k.a. 'The A-Team'
The charge of the Advocacy & Action Taskforce, a.k.a. ‘the A-Team’, led by Dr. Teresa Aldredge and Dr. Tammy Robinson, is to mobilize a coalition focused on supporting the enfranchisement and empowerment of the Black and African American community.
