Dr. Safiyyah Forbes is currently the Dean of Science & Math at Chabot College. Prior to her position at Chabot College, Safiyyah was both a Chemistry Professor and faculty coordinator for the Center for Transformative Teaching & Learning (CTTL) at Skyline College. During her tenure she implemented the Chemistry Jam Program to help students improve and master key concepts within the chemistry series. She has authored/co-authored OER laboratory manuals for different Chemistry courses. Led numerous programs with a broad focus on promoting career interest within STEM education for young women and minoritized groups. Furthermore, she served as the Co-PI for the NSF S-STEM grant at Skyline College. As the CTTL coordinator, she implemented professional development opportunities that ground the work of the college in equity and promote student success through cultural fluency and racial literacy. Dr. Forbes played an instrumental role in the development of the Equity Institute training programs.
She is strongly committed to working collaborative with faculty, and staff across campus in the continuous efforts to support students in accomplishing their educational goals.
Safiyyah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Long Island University, and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kansas State University, with a focused in Supramolecular/Synthetic Chemistry. In her down time Safiyyah enjoys spending time with her family traveling, running and baking with her daughter.
